David Oyelowo becomes the "first black James Bond"

David Oyelowo has been announced as the narrator of the audiobook version of Anthony Horowitz's upcoming James Bond novel Trigger Mortis.  As Oyelowo will Bond as part of the reading, The Guardian has described him as "the first black James Bond."
Oyelowo has worked on stage for the Royal Shakespeare Company, had a lead role in  BBC TV spy series Spooks and was acclaimed for his performance as Martin Luther King in Selma.   He said:

“I am officially the only person on planet Earth who can legitimately say: ‘I am the new James Bond’ – even saying that name is the cinematic equivalent of doing the ‘to be or not to be’ speech.  I was asked specifically by the Fleming estate, which is really special.”

In a statement, Horowitz added:

What an honour to have an actor as talented as David to read my take on Bond. He has a brilliant voice and talent for bringing out the nuances of dialogue and characters.”

The audiobook version of Trigger Mortis will be released on 8 September, along with hardback and ebook editions.  The hardcover is available for pre-order from Amazon:
